Job Description

The Senior Accountant is accountable to the Controller performing a variety of accounting activities including account analysis, costing and financial analysis and financial and analytical reporting This individual will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills with accuracy and thoroughness with data. The position ensures quality support for the operation ensuring it complies with all relevant reporting requirements. Duties include working with multiple currencies, companies and operating locations across North America.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the collection of financial data, analyzes and prepares reports for economic improvements, costing analysis, cost control, profit determination, and business development
  • Conducts financial and economic analysis projects as assigned by the Controller, US
  • Collects compiles, verifies financial information to assist in and support the budgeting and quarterly forecasting process, including trending & expense analysis, updating the financial budget file and assisting in the preparation of the final executive reporting package
  • Analyze actual production and product costs versus standard costs
  • Preparing costing estimates for new products and new costing models
  • Checks, reconciles, and analyzes financial information, posts journal entries and assists in the timely preparation of monthly financial statements and corresponding monthly reporting ensuring financial standards and policies are being followed and financial records comply with IFRS and various regulatory requirements
  • Assists with fixed asset cost tracking and reporting
  • Provides technical accounting advice to assist in developing reports including Business Intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management (CPM) reporting
  • Analyzes and completes account reconciliations
  • Completes annual corporate working paper reconciliations for external auditors, including providing assistance in a timely and accurate manner with the external auditors
  • Assists other departments with analysis to support business decisions, including developing new reports and tracking projects in process
  • Assists in providing financial analysis, costing quotes, tracking invoicing and expenses associated with business development opportunities including working with new customers
  • Ensures all activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all company policies and procedures

Job Requirements

Requirements:
• College or University degree (Bachelor's Degree) in Accounting or Finance
• Has or is in the process of completing a recognized Accounting designation
• CPA highly preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ of significant work experience
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and meet project deadlines
• Proven analytical skills with the ability to evaluate, problem-solve and recommend resolutions
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work with staff, management, external resources and auditors
• Advanced level MS Office Suite skills, with an emphasis on advanced level Excel. Experience with business ERP Systems required; Microsoft AX ERP system an asset
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Ability to work in a demanding environment with proven multi-tasking skills
