Job Description

Growing company in the Phoenix area looking for a very strong CPA Controller who has great leadership skills and a strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP. This position requires someone who has worked with integrating ERP systems and has experience working with taxes, both corporate and payroll taxes. The company is looking for someone they can develop and grow, the Controller position will manage a team of four including one Assistant Controller.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Preparation of the monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Reviews reconciliations of balance sheet general ledger accounts and journal entries.
  • Researches accounting and tax issues.
  • Works with external auditors to facilitate the review/audit.
  • Implements and maintains a system of internal controls.
  • Ensures accounting records are maintained appropriately through various methods as defined.
  • Provides guidance and consultation to management and staff at all levels across the organization on matters of internal controls, operating efficiencies and process improvement initiatives.
  • Identifies staffing and training needs for the Accounting team and evaluates employee performance.
  • Provides support to the Accounting department on special projects as needed.
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirements of the position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with senior management throughout the business.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive under pressure; high attention to detail and the ability to execute multiple initiatives. against time constraints.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and other applications in the Microsoft Office suite
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree with focus in Accounting and Finance required
  • CPA license preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required
  • Strong technical knowledge in U.S. GAAP
  • Experience working with taxes, both corporate and payroll taxes
  • Have worked with an integrated ERP System required (i.e. Great Plains, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, SAP or equivalent)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills to create models as needed for the
  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred
