Job Description

OVERVIEW:

The Controller will help establish financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. This individual will manage all accounting operations including Payroll, Billing, A/R, A/P and Collections. This will NOT be overseeing the general accounting group. The ideal will come from a sub-contractor environment or a general contractor, if they have been hands on in the AR/AP and Payroll. Ideally looking for a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) with a great knowledge of federal, state and local prevailing wage requirements. This position is in North County San Diego.

MUST HAVE LARGE ($250 MIL+ REVENUE) CONSTRUCTION COMPANY EXPERIENCE. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Ensure all accounts and reporting systems are in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning tasks to employees; following up on work results.
  • Maintains accounting staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains accounting staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of 5 to 8+ years of financial leadership experience within a large construction company.
  • Well-versed in overseeing accounting and financial activities for an organization that completes projects in both the private and public sectors.
  • Expereicne overseeing AR, AP, and Payroll 
  • Solid knowledge of accounting processes and procedures and US GAAP.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus
  • Must be hands on and well versed in AR/AP and payroll. 
  • Proficient with financial analysis, month-end/annual close process, compliance audits, and tax return work papers.
  • Proven ability to meet daily and monthly deliverables.
  • Proficiency with accounting software systems; Experience utilizing Oracle is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, with advanced working knowledge of Excel.
  • Knowledge of all relevant federal, state and local payroll and prevailing wage requirements, including the Davis Bacon Act
  • Excellent leadership and staff management skills
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or another related field is preferred
