Job Title: Senior Project Accountant (Construction)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant to join our accounting team. This role will oversee financial activities across multiple projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting functions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting, expertise with Sage (Sage 300 CRE or similar), and the ability to partner closely with project managers and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle project accounting for multiple construction projects, including job cost tracking, billings, and reporting.
- Prepare, review, and analyze project financial statements, forecasts, and budget-to-actual reports.
- Oversee AIA billing, lien releases, and subcontractor payment applications.
- Maintain accurate job cost records and reconcile general ledger accounts related to projects.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and project-specific contractual requirements.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including accruals and journal entries.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor project performance and financial health.
- Coordinate audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
- Utilize Sage software for financial reporting, cost management, and system integration.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency in project accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
- Proficiency with Sage 300 CRE (Timberline) or similar construction accounting software.
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting, AIA billing, and percentage-of-completion methods.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- CPA or pursuit of CPA designation.
- Experience with multi-entity environments and project-based reporting.
