A growing construction company in the Howard County, MD area seeks an experienced Senior Accountant
Responsibilities:
- Manage project accounting for multiple construction projects, including tracking job costs, billings, and contract compliance.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure costs are recorded accurately and timely, and review forecasts versus actuals to identify variances.
- Prepare and review period-end journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for both project and corporate accounting.
- Analyze indirect costs, equipment, labor, and general administrative expenses, providing insights for management decision-making.
- Participate in ad hoc financial analyses, audits, and special projects as needed.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and industry regulations.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering professional development and efficient workflow.
- Maintain accurate project and corporate records in accounting systems, supporting reporting and audit requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in construction or project accounting.
- Strong knowledge of job costing, project billing, and contract compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
