Job Description

Top Non Profit is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant with a strong focus on reporting and payroll accounting to join the Finance team. This individual will play a key role in ensuring payroll reporting, compliance, and integration with the general ledger. The Senior Payroll Accountant will also develop and deliver reporting that supports both internal management and external compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate and analyze payroll reports to support management decision-making, audits, and compliance.
  • Oversee payroll accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations for the general ledger.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and program leadership to resolve payroll discrepancies and improve processes.
  • Utilize Dayforce (or related payroll system) to extract, analyze, and validate payroll data.
  • Perform reconciliations between payroll and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with process improvements, internal controls, and reporting automation.
  • Support year-end reporting, audits, and other ad hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
    • Minimum 3+ years of payroll accounting and reporting experience required (additional experience required if no degree).
    • At least 2 recent years of general ledger accounting experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Dayforce or a similar payroll system.
    • Strong reporting experience with the ability to interpret and present data clearly.
    • Intermediate Excel skills including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
  • Professional Skills:
    • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
