Finance Manager
Location: Salinas, CA
Employment Type: Direct Hire, Onsite
Salary: $95,000 - $105,000 annually

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and control all fiscal and business operations, ensuring excellent financial oversight and stewardship.

  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning in alignment with strategic goals.

  • Lead and coordinate the annual budget process.

  • Manage agency and program budgets, contracts, purchasing, invoicing, collections, banking, credit management, and general accounting.

  • Oversee payroll, benefits, and taxes.

  • Maintain appropriate cash flow and reserve levels.

  • Secure bridge and operational funding as needed.

  • Research and develop alternative funding sources.

  • Supervise all business transactions.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate financial and business policies, procedures, and systems.

  • Manage the annual audit process, including auditor selection, preparation of documentation, and communication with the Board Audit Committee.

  • Conduct risk assessments and manage liabilities and insurance policies.

  • Review leases, manage facility issues, and negotiate grant, service, and vendor contracts.

  • Administer third-party payment systems.

  • Provide regular management reports and financial statements to leadership and the Board.

Supervisory Duties

  • Recruit, hire, and train finance staff as needed.

  • Supervise and evaluate finance team members, set goals, resolve conflicts, and provide feedback.

  • Ensure finance staff operate effectively, efficiently, and professionally.

Development Support

  • Partner with program managers and leadership to prepare grant budgets and proposals.

  • Work with the development team to maintain integrity in fundraising activities.

  • Manage public fiscal postings.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Administer HR oversight functions.

  • Contribute to agency strategic planning.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and funder reporting requirements.

  • Attend required meetings and trainings.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • Executive-level analytical, strategic thinking, and planning skills.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of operations, accounting, and grants administration.

  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and financial software.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective personnel management, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment in a fast-paced setting.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five years of comparable, professional finance experience.

  • Nonprofit, public grants management, and/or housing program experience preferred.

  • Must pass background, DMV, and credit checks.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

  • Valid California Driver's License, satisfactory driving record, and access to a reliable personal vehicle required.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Expert-level QuickBooks skills.
