Job Title: Assistant Controller (Temporary Project Role)
Location: North Charleston
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Controller
Duration: 3-6 Months


Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller will support the organization's financial operations through accurate reporting, analysis, and oversight of accounting functions. This is a temporary 3-6 month project-based role focused on maintaining financial integrity while leading or supporting a financial system implementation. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, project coordination skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Conduct variance analysis and deliver insights into financial performance.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and prepare audit documentation.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and financial accounts.

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other financial regulations.
  • Manage invoice processing and payment workflows.

System Implementation

  • Lead or support the implementation of a new financial system.
  • Collaborate with IT, finance, and other departments to ensure successful deployment.
  • Assist in data migration, testing, training, and post-implementation support.
  • Document processes and contribute to system optimization efforts.

Other Responsibilities

  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and issues.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing financial policies and procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between the accounting department and other internal/external stakeholders.
  • Support tax preparation and ensure timely and accurate filings.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Experience: 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory and system implementation experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software ( QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong time management and project coordination skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex accounting and system-related issues
