Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager with a strong background in the construction industry to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing construction accounting functions, including job costing, project accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. The Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure the accuracy of financial data, and support management with insightful financial analysis to drive business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the accounting functions for multiple construction projects, ensuring accurate job costing and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Manage project-related accounting tasks, including contract billing, change orders, revenue recognition, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and other departments to ensure accurate forecasting and financial planning.
- Monitor and analyze project budgets and cost variances, providing management with insights into financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws, licensing, insurance, bonding, and reporting requirements specific to the construction industry.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions as needed.
- Assist in the development of financial models, budgets, and forecasts for ongoing and upcoming construction projects.
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting regulations and industry best practices, particularly as they relate to construction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting management
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
