Job Description

Controller: $90k-$120k/year- Saint Paul, 100% in-office

As a Controller for a small business services company, your role would be multifaceted and crucial to the financial health of the organization. Here's an overview of what your responsibilities might entail:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) on a regular basis to provide insights into the company's financial performance. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Work with senior management to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets and provide variance analysis.
  • Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes. Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections. Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Manage payroll processing, including calculating wages, withholding taxes, and other deductions. Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations related to payroll.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns (income tax, sales tax, payroll tax, etc.). Stay updated on changes in tax laws that may affect the company.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks. Provide recommendations to management for improving financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information. Implement policies and procedures to mitigate risks and prevent fraud.
  • Prepare documentation and assist external auditors during annual audits or reviews. Address any audit findings and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations and strategic investments. Monitor bank balances, cash disbursements, and cash receipts.
  • Oversee the company's accounting software and systems. Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to streamline financial operations.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, if applicable. Delegate tasks, provide training, and ensure the team meets deadlines and objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives. Provide financial insights to support decision-making and strategic planning.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a controller for a MN-based organization (Pref 30million in size)
  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • 2 years managaing a team of at least 2 people
